Establishing A Modern Salivary Gland Practice

One year course with 4 study days

Courses for 2019 to be announced

Venue: King Edward VII's Hospital, London

The aim of the course is to enable attendees to run a salivary gland unit on completion. It focuses on developments and current practice in minimally invasive salivary gland surgery, endoscopy & lithotripsy.

Participants undertake patient evaluation with team members over a 12 month period, developing the latest approaches and techniques through lectures, surgical demonstrations and active participation in theatre. Emphasis is placed on disseminating the very latest surgical techniques in minimally invasive salivary gland surgery.

All course material is available on-line in the form of notes, slide presentations and case summaries.

The course is held in response to rapid developments in science, particularly with the introduction of new introducers, baskets and lithotripters developed by Cook Ltd.

Our work at the London Salivary Gland Centre has fundamentally altered current salivary gland surgical practice and continues to strongly influence its development. Our further aim with these courses is to develop and disseminate new techniques and information as widely as possible.

With advanced facilities available to those joining the course, careful planning of the operation is possible. In this context the course will demonstrate that there is a move away from X-ray imaging to ultrasound.  There are rapid developments occurring which lead to surgical teams being able to provide all aspects of treatment in house – ultrasound imaging, handheld lithotripsy, endoscopy, basket retrieval and endoscopic assisted surgery.

The present course will guide the participants into setting up their own personal salivary gland service under their own direction.

We look forward to your participation.

"We believe that our courses are a productive way to improve patient outcome. They are helping to advance the knowledge base and to provide strong educational support for those  seeking to specialise in this very demanding area."
